NOT ALL GEAR OIL IS THE SAME!
80w-90 “Classic” GL-4 is the perfect gear lubricant for vintage Triumph, BSA, Norton, Harley, and any transmission containing bronze or brass bushings, thrust washers, or any other “soft” metals.
Most 80w-90 gear oils found on auto parts shelves are a GL-5 specification, which has been proven to harm “yellow metals” found in vintage gearboxes.
“Classic” GL-4 contains no friction modifiers and will not interfere with synchronizer performance in manual transmissions. Most British motorcycle gearboxes use less than a quart, Harley less than two quarts.
